Transport of Animals by Road – Short or Long Journey (Assessment Only) Training Course

The qualification is species specific (e.g., cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, poultry, horses, game birds) with two types of transporter authorisation:

Type 1 - The Short Journey Assessment is made up of one unit

UNIT 1 – Short distance transport of animals by road – principles - assessed by on-line EVOLVE computer based test or via oral questioning from an approved assessor

Type 2 - The Long Journey Assessment is made up of three units

UNIT 1 – Long distance transport of animals by road – principles - assessed by on-line EVOLVE computer based test or via oral questioning from an approved assessor

UNIT 2 – Long distance transport of animals by road – principles - assessed in one-to-one practical with an approved assessor

UNIT 3 - Drive an animal transport vehicle – this unit requires the candidate to complete a journey minimum of 15 miles with minimum 75% load of vehicle with the vehicle being of a type that the candidate normally drives - assessed in one-to-one practical with an approved assessor

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED Protective Equipment:

  • Wellington or water-repellent boots with a good grip (preferably with steel toe cap protection) EN20345
  • Non-snag outer clothing - ideally clean overralls
  • Waterproof leggings/ trousers (PVC or nitrile)
